POSITION SUMMARY Reporting directly to the US Finance Manager, the Accountant is responsible for supporting the tax and regulatory compliance function of the US Finance group. The Accountant is also responsible for supporting the US payroll function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the monthly- and year-end closing process;
- Assist in preparation/filing of sales tax returns, gross receipts, and property tax returns;
- Assist in gathering the necessary information for Federal and State income/franchise tax compliance;
- Assist in various tax audits, as they arise;
- Support the US payroll team and work closely with HR;
- Support US payroll team in reconciling benefit invoices with payroll records;
- Support the US Finance Manager and Canadian Finance team as needed with complex and urgent problems;
- Keep abreast of new tax laws and regulations and communicate to senior management the impact they may have on the organization;
- Identify instances of non-compliance in the application of company policies, directives, and procedures;
- Any other related tasks
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting, tax, or finance;
- CPA or active CPA candidate beneficial;
- Minimum three years’ experience in accounting/finance;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
- Familiarity with various taxes (income/franchise, sales/use, property, gross receipts) or motivation to learn;
- Strong account reconciliation skills with attention to detail;
- Knowledge of SAP software and Ceridian payroll software is a plus or comfort with learning new systems and software;
- Good leadership and organizational skills;
- Team-oriented and willingness to help with tasks outside of regular responsibilities;
- Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and multiple projects simultaneously;
- Knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures
