Position Summary

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator is a key leader and catalyst for advancing a culture of prevention across the organization. This role supports managers and field teams in deploying, maintaining, and continuously improving a healthy and safe working environment. The Coordinator is recognized for leadership, rigor, credibility, and the ability to challenge and influence others.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Engagement: Inspire and empower teams by communicating the H&S vision with conviction and passion. Act as a role model, engaging team members and fostering commitment to safety.
  • Field Support & Guidance: Maintain close proximity to operations to identify needs, trends, and potential risks. Analyze findings and take preventive action. Clarify expectations and provide coaching using a pedagogical approach.
  • Communication & Recognition: Make H&S accessible and engaging, adding a participative and “fun” dimension. Observe, listen, provide feedback, and recognize individual and collective achievements.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Improve and simplify H&S management processes, programs, and tools. Integrate H&S with other pillars (quality, productivity, people). Seek best practices through networking, plant visits, conferences, and training.
  • Rigor & Managerial Courage: Ensure rules are applicable, understood, and respected. Intervene immediately to address shortcomings or issues, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Operational Support:
    • Analyze H&S performance in the field, assess progress, identify needs, and make recommendations.
    • Support hazard identification and implementation of safe work methods.
    • Visit plants, coach supervisors, employees, and H&S facilitators.
    • Follow up regularly with H&S facilitators.
    • Assist plant leadership in developing and monitoring annual action plans.
    • Participate in meetings, committees, risk assessments, audits, investigations, and accident analyses.
    • Draft and coordinate implementation of programs, procedures, instructions, and training materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in H&S management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable U.S. laws and regulations (OSHA 30); ISO 45001 preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to challenge, coach, and influence others.
  • Excellent communication skills; credible, respectful, attentive listener, and effective feedback provider.
  • Project management skills (analysis, planning, prioritization, change management).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; comfortable with other programs as needed.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrates innovation, creativity, rigor, managerial courage, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to assigned plants.
