Position Summary

Reporting to the plant manager, the shift manager is responsible for the efficiency of the production lines on the evening shift. This key role provides leadership within the team and ensures effective communication between his team and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a leader in occupational health and safety;
  • Work in collaboration with the quality and maintenance support teams to maintain high standards of product quality and equipment reliability;
  • Plan resources by line and by shift according to the given schedule (forecast the necessary resources according to the production steps and ensure that the routines are respected);
  • Measure variances between budget and actual and initiate corrective action requests;
  • Develop continuous improvement projects with related departments;
  • Prioritize the requests made by his department to always carry out the projects allowing to obtain the greatest gains;
  • Develop his team (CE) to make the changes of kind and end of shift fully efficient;
  • Develop his team on the company's programs (6S, OHS, GP) and ensure their maintenance in his sector;
  • Coach his team leaders in their role;
  • Follow up on the training of team members and build a development and succession plan for key roles;
  • Monitor performance and communicate successes and challenges in the area;
  • Prioritize training programs for his team;
  • Conduct floor rounds (performance) and audits (OHS, 6S, training, GP);
  • Provide technical support to his team leaders in problem solving;
  • Ensure the performance management of his team;
  • Participate in the annual budget exercise.

Requirements

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in Operations Management and Logistics, Industrial, Food, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Food Science, or any combination of relevant training/experience;
  • Has five years experience in team management / supervision;
  • Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP GFSI/BRC, SQF, GMP);
  • Has experience in a continuous improvement environment (Lean Manufacturing, 6S, Six Sigma, etc.);
  • Experience in the use of the Office suite;
  • Knowledge of SAP is an asset;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Fluent in French, both spoken and written;
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Ability to make decisions.
